Malawi has urged the United Nations to shift from a “forum of speeches to an engine of delivery” for vulnerable nations,
Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Dr. George Chaponda told the 81st UN General Assembly General Debate.
Chaponda called for comprehensive debt relief, concessional financing for agriculture, industrialisation and infrastructure, and full capitalisation of the Loss and Damage Fund.
He also demanded UN Security Council reform with permanent African representation and veto rights, stronger African pharmaceutical capacity, and a legally binding Pandemic Treaty.
“Restoring trust in the international system requires concrete action on development, climate change, debt, global governance, health and peace,” he said. Chaponda reaffirmed Malawi’s commitment to multilateralism and economic diplomacy, declaring Malawi open for business.
